Welcome to the One Word challenge! I chose a word last year and it definitely heightened my awareness. I consciously thought about "move" as I worked out (or didn't), was inspired, and tried new things. I'm looking forward to seeing 2012 through my "celebrate" lens and finding more opportunities to see the world this way.

Whoa, listen to that East Coast snark (to borrow a phrase used by another Bay Stater)! No matter what, at least you can be sure that riding the T is far better than braving the Mass. Pike or 128! Too bad the T is so popular out of necessity, though, and everyone and their brother smooshes onto it.

WOW, even though it didn't happen to me...that kind of made my day. It's nice to hear that there are still some genuinely nice and respectful people out there.

Amen to all of that! People write me off as skinny and inherently able to wear most clothes, but I have my problems, too. It was your mentions of shorts and button-down blouses that prompted me to comment. I avoid shorts too--my legs are too skinny to ever look good in most of them, even if they're long and narrow or extra-short (definitely can't wear anything in between those styles). I've taken to safety-pinning the centers of my button-down blouses because of the gaping issue, since I like cute blouses too much to give them up. It's not ideal, though. I swear, there are days when I almost envy the limited wardrobe of my old-order Mennonite aunt (believe it or not, I have one, albeit not a blood relative). The problem is that I just love colorful clothes too much to give up on them. Anyway, at least most women have these troubles with clothes and their bodies, so we're in good company.
