Please tell me I’m not the only person seeing something wrong with this picture. Essentially, this “doctor” is potentially going to have his license taken away for alcoholism, because “Dr. Crummie’s abuse of alcohol constitutes Dr. Crummie being unable to practice medicine with reasonable skill and safety to patients.” (from the May 8 affidavit by the NC Medical Board). Yet, no one bats an eyelash at the following quotes from his ‘book’ Dr. Bob’s Grocery Store Medicine and Healthy Life Anecdotes:
“there is no such thing as a homosexual. The Gay Movement is a hoax,”
“individuals who act out homosexually are at best very neurotic and at worst psychotic. Most of them are character disorders.”
Oh, and don’t forget this:
Crummie, 69, writes that he put a stop to homosexuality at a North Carolina prison when he threatened to give electric shock therapy to anyone caught in the act, then demonstrated the procedure on a severely depressed inmate as others looked on, the Observer reported. He describes the episode as “one of my funniest stories.”
Yes, alcoholism and abuse in a doctor is bad for patient care. Yet isn’t recomending electroshock therapy for somethng that has been regarded as NOT a mental health issue for 30 years a bigger danger to pantents? Or maybe I’m crazy.
