I Thought it Was insignificant

It mocks me from above my sink–
eye level when I pee;
my hand brushes it as I reach for my flosser
and I am reminded of my failure.
So insignificant
the little pink toothbrush.
Who’d think it would have so much control,
provoke such memories
be so influential?

The now-empty socket haunts me.
